Hot Melt Glue Expert
A friend recently called on me as the hot melt glue expert. It is a
title I do not really deserve but one which amuses me.
Things I have learned about hot melt glue:
- HMG is slightly soluble in acetone.
- Do not use with copper tubes near flame -- the heat will travel along the copper tube and remelt the HMG.
- Too brittle for establishing good seals where movement is possible.
- Works very well on some forms of shiny poster board.
- Works extraordinarily well when it can impregnate a surface as in a composite (such as HMG plus a porous/cloth tape).
- Can be removed from smooth surfaces without leaving much of a residue.
- Works alright to immobilize wiring but never turns out "neat" or even necessarily waterproof.
